「確認」的英文怎麼說？"confirm" 或 "make sure" 用法解析

例句一、我們會檢查流程，確保事情順利進行。
（X）We'll check the agenda to confirm that everything runs smoothly.
（O）We'll check the agenda to make sure that everything runs smoothly.

上面這一個例句中，我們要確認的是 " everything runs smoothly " 這個動作會發生，因此使用 " make sure "。

例句二、主管想確認 Janice 下週是否不在辦公室。
（X）The director wants to make sure if Janice will be out of the office next week.
（O）The director wants to confirm if Janice will be out of the office next week.

上面這一個例句中，主管要確認的是「Janice不在辦公室」這個消息是真的，而不是要確保她不會在辦公室，用 “ confirm ”。

從文法了解" confirm " 和 " make sure " 的不同

再來從文法上來看，” make sure “ 既然是確保一件事會發生，它後面接的是一個子句；而 “ confirm “ 的彈性較大，可以接子句或名詞。

例句一、確認行程／預約
（X）make sure a schedule/reservation
（O）confirm a schedule/reservation

上面這一個句子中，因為「行程／預約」是名詞，因此要用 “ confirm ”。

例句二、你今天一定要跟他們確認會面細節。
（X）Please confirm to make sure the appointment with them today.
（O）Please make sure that you confirm the appointment with them today.

上面這一個句子中，一定要和他們「確認」做這件事，用 “ make sure ”；「確認」會面資訊是否正確，用 “ confirm”。

最後，讓我們回到一開始的問題，「我想確認訂房」這句話英文怎麼說呢？
I'd like to confirm my reservation at the hotel.
I'd like to make sure (that) you have my reservation.
這兩種說法都可以，不過用 " make sure " 語氣略微隨意一些。
